My top 5 Triathlon Photos

If you are interested in triathlon photos then this article is for you

As someone deeply involved in sports marketing for the past years, I’ve been lucky to stand right where the stories unfold. Not behind a screen or from the stands — but right next to the sweat, the pain, the joy, and the raw human effort.

I’ve captured triathlon photos in super sprint, sprint, half distance, full distance, and extreme triathlons, including the soul-testing course of Olympos-X. But for me, sports photography was never about covering the race. It was about capturing the spirit of those who dare.

In this post, I’m showcasing 33 photos — not because they’re the most polished or perfectly composed. But because each one of them tells a real story. Some are filled with movement, others with emotion. Some show victory, others vulnerability. But all of them are real.

I’ll go deeper into 5 of them below, so you get to know what I saw, what I felt, and why I pressed the shutter.

Why These Five Triathlon Photos?

You might wonder — why these and not others?

Because these are the moments that stayed with me. The photos where something clicked. Maybe the light. Maybe the face. Maybe the silence before the storm. Or maybe just a feeling.

Each of them reflects what I believe sports photography should be:

✅ Honest

✅ Immediate

✅ Emotional

✅ Unpredictable

1. Rumen Meets Olympus

Olympos-X Extreme Half Distance

This photo captures one of my favorite athletes from Bulgaria. At the moment of the shot, he had just completed two brutal sections — a 2,000m night swim and a 92km cycling course with 2,200m altitude gain. What was ahead? A 16km trail run with 1,150m elevation on the mythical paths of Mount Olympus.

In the background? The vast valley beneath Olympus Ski Center.

A reminder that this race is not just physical. It’s spiritual.

2. 🫶 Adi and the Power of Will

Triman 70.3

Adi is a legend. Not because she finishes first — but because she always finishes.

I’ve captured her in many editions of Triman, but this photo from 2024 was different. That year, she didn’t finish last — she finished with the last athlete. They crossed the line together, hand in hand. The crowd? They cheered louder than ever.

You don’t shoot moments like this. You feel them. And if you’re lucky, you catch them in time.

3. 👑 Anastasia’s Crown Moment

Triman 70.3

In this shot, you can see Anastasia, Greece’s greatest female triathlete, as she crosses the finish line to claim her first ever Triman championship.

There’s grit in her face. But also a rare glimpse of vulnerability — that split second where the fight is over, and you let go. I didn’t want to interfere. Just observe. And let the lens capture what words couldn’t.

4. ⚡ A Fall. A Rise. A Finish

Triman 70.3

Technically? Maybe not my cleanest shot.

But emotionally? One of my most powerful.

A triathlete just finished the swim course. As he stepped onto the beach, he stumbled — a real moment of physical overload. But within a second, he stood tall. He rode. He ran. And he finished the course in one of the best times of the day.

For me, this is what long-distance triathlon is all about. Not perfection. But perseverance.

5. 🏁 Nikos Nakou, Through My Lens

Triman 226

This photo is a personal victory too. Why?

Because it was shot on the move, using only a telephoto lens, with no gimbal, no stabiliser. Just instinct.

Nikos Nakou was the first to complete Triman226 in 2024. The moment was fast, full of adrenaline — and I had one shot.

The camera shook. My body wasn’t steady. But the photo made it. And that’s what I love about sports photography: it teaches you to be ready — every second.

What I’ve Learned Behind the Camera

  • Trust the athlete — they’ll give you the best angles when you least expect it
  • Don’t chase perfection — chase authenticity
  • Stay invisible — the best moments are the unguarded ones
  • Know the sport — understanding the race makes you a better storyteller
  • Shoot with feeling, not just settings
